Control and numerical analysis of mechanical systems.

Teaching

In June 2005 and June 2006 I will assist my supervisor Poul G. Hjorth in the teaching of the course 01451 Classical Mechanics and Symplectic Integration. The course duration is three weeks; the first two weeks consist of lectures and problem solving, and the last week is devoted to the solution of a mini project. The course material is the lecture notes and exercises ( short version) along with a few selected sections from the book "Geometric Numerical Integration. Structure Preserving Algorithms for Ordinary Differential Equations" by E. Hairer, C. Lubich, and G. Wanner.

The Tippe Top

In connection with the annual science fair "Den naturvidenskabelige landsby" in Copenhagen 2006 I have written a short manual on how to construct a tippe top. This has been produced after looking at various commercially available tippe tops, and many hours of trial and error. Following this guide about twenty out of the thirty tippe tops I constructed worked perfectly, whereas the rest did not work too well.
