My project (Topology optimization problems with design-dependent
sets of constraints)
My field of research is within topology optimization, and as such
I am part of the the TopOpt group
at DTU.
To understand topology optimization, consider first a truss
structure, e.g.
.
Now, as an engineer, you might ask: Could this strucuture have a
better design?
In order to answere this question, we must
define what we consider being best and what we may alter in the
original design in order to achieve this best design.
In a topology optimization problem, we define how a possible
structure may look (here there may be constraints on the stress
values in a bar, the displacements of a bar, and so forth), and then
find the optimal among these. An example of an optimal design could
be the structure with minimal weight that still satisfies the given
constraints on the structure.
My focus is on how to solve the mathematical problem which arises
from topology optimization. In particular, I am interested in
structures which have local stress constraints to its bars.
