Abstract

We numerically determine the existence and stability regimes of bright 2+1 dimensional spatial solitary waves (solitons) in media with quadratic and focusing cubic nonlinearities. The quadratic nonlinearity enables stable solitons to exist when effective cubic nonlinearity is sufficiently weak. We study the dynamics of the solitons in the unstable regime, and demonstrate the existence of two different nonlinear Shrödinger limits.
